Why I’m Addicted to The Finals Right Now

I’ve been playing a lot of The Finals lately. Like, way more than I probably should be.

It’s one of those games that just hits different. You know the feeling when you say “just one more match” and suddenly it’s 2 AM and you’ve been playing for four hours straight?

Yeah, that’s been me for the past few weeks. The ADHD hyperfixation is real.

The Destruction Physics Are Insane

This is what sets The Finals apart from every other FPS I’ve played. The map literally changes as you play.

Buildings collapse. Walls explode. You can blow holes in floors instead of using doors.

Someone can rocket launcher a wall to create a new entrance. Or bring down an entire floor on your head. Or target specific building supports to topple structures.

The destruction is fully interactive. When buildings collapse, they damage other structures on the way down. Cranes can cut through buildings. It’s chaos in the best way.

In most FPS games, you learn the map once and that’s it. Static angles, fixed chokepoints. But here? Every match feels different because the environment is always changing.

That’s what got me hooked.

And honestly, it’s just fun. No complicated progression systems. No battle pass FOMO (okay there is one but whatever). The gunplay feels responsive, abilities add strategy without requiring a wiki, and matches are 15-20 minutes max. Perfect for when you don’t have hours to commit but still want to game.

You figure stuff out as you go. Like using a goo grenade to block a doorway, or melting through walls with the flamethrower to create surprise angles.

I’m a Light Main (Yeah, I Know)

I play Light class. The squishy speed demon that everyone says is too hard.

But the mobility is just too good.

When I’m running Light:

  • Quick in-and-out plays – hit hard, get out before they react
  • Constant flanking—always coming from angles they don’t expect
  • Grabbing cashouts when nobody’s looking
  • Vertical gameplay – using height advantage constantly

The speed makes up for the low health. You just can’t get caught in the open or you’re toast.

When you nail a flank and wipe their backline before they even know what happened? Chef’s kiss.

For ranked (World Tour), I’ll switch to Medium or Heavy if the team needs it. AKM with Healing Beam for Medium, Sledgehammer for Heavy.

But casual matches? Light every time. The movement is addictive.

Oh, and one thing I learned the hard way: kills don’t win games, cashouts do. You can go 20-5 and still lose if you’re not focusing on the objective. Took a few painful losses to figure that out.

PS5 vs My Potato PC

Both can technically run The Finals at 120 Hz with a mouse and keyboard. But I play on PS5 and honestly, it’s not even close.

My PC? It tries. Bless its heart. But the PS5 is just so damn fast.

Load times are instant. No stutters. No thermal throttling after an hour. Just smooth gameplay start to finish.

Final Thoughts

This ended up being longer than expected. Guess that’s what happens when you’re genuinely into something.

The Finals hit at the right time for me. Needed something fun and chaotic that didn’t require a PhD in meta-gaming to enjoy.

Also, stay hydrated. 😤 Keep water nearby while grinding. Your focus (and your K/D) will thank you.

If you play, what’s your main? Curious if other people are masochistic enough to run Light in ranked.
